I have been going through some old magazines before the over run my house. I came across some lovely photos from a Victoria magazine. I just love the color and textures of 19th century country life, the beiges of old soap, the cremes of linen sheets, the ivory of an quilted petticoat. Paper tags laced with hemp stings, pottery eggs that were placed in a hen's nest when a real egg was removed for breakfast, balls of hemp spun by a farmer's wife waiting to be woven into fabric. Even the simplest tokens of country life take on a pure style when gathered and displayed in baskets.
